HL2 runs fine without SP2...

I understand it's a laptop you have there? If so, video card might be the problem.

Right-click desktop, go to Properties, then the Advanced tab. Bottom left, there will be a resolution slider, and above it will say some monitor name on video card name, we need those. For instance, it can look like "Samsung 957 MB SyncMaster Magic on GeForce FX 5700".

Yeah right-click the desktop and do what I wrote above. Give us the name of your videocard.

mobility radeon 9600
or mobility radeon 9700pro (costs more, but looks better and performans better)

assuming that this is a laptop we're dealing with

And assuming that you don't have one of those crappy laptops where you can not change a video card.

Radeon Mobility 9700 pro would work nice with the game if you can afford that card.

but i'm gonna wager you will not be able to play hl2 at all because only gaming laptops can be upgraded
so you'll need a new computer to play hl2
