HL2 Installation Problem

I just bought and new copy of HL2 and it wont install for some reason. The first thing i did was install steam just like the game manual said and then i tried to install HL2 after that with no luck. I tried to install hl2 with and without CS:S but both ways failed. During the installation it says error 1305 and the installation process shut down. Can anyone help me solve this problem.

I had a similar error when trying to install. For me, it was a problem with the CD drive reading the CD. So I just went out and bought an external CD drive, installed HL2, then returned it.

I dont think its a Cd drive problem i have a new cd rom drive and i havent had any problems yet with it. Still think this is a Hl2 issue.
