HL2 loading times/frequency

I'm replaying hl1 again. it's been awhile. Since i first played it, my computer has gotten considerably faster, but my loading times are somewhat annoying. I think it's steam that's causing my single player to load slower. can anyone confirm/deny this? if so, what does that mean for hl2? would hl2 sp be faster w/o steam?

btw i looked this up in the search menu and found this

My guess is the loading times will be alittle longer than the original, but since the maps are bigger it won't be as often.

I was going to post that same problem. I was playing today and yes those loading times are damn annoying. HL2 better not be like that or i'll..................well I won't do anything, its still gonna kick ass.

I've noticed loading times with steam have increased slightly as well.

No, the loading times are the same with or without Steam. I would say the loading times are caused by some sort of engine limitation versus a performance limitation.

The loading times for me in CZ were a tad bit longer than running it off my HD.. I'd say +1 second, at most

Now, here's my question, anyone with CZ.. do you get crap performance on Steam, not off the CD install? This happens with me, and it's pretty annoying

It's strange because i have a regular WON install of Half-life and a steam install on this old computer (p3 667, 392mg ram, gf2 mx400) and the loading times in steam are noticeably longer ,not annoyingly longer...but noticeably.

Make sure you have it set to Open Gl. Just incase that matters. =P

yeah you are right. I just loaded up Half-Life and the loading times were longer with steam than what I remember with a regular WON install.
