Probably not huh? I would think it would be like HL1 where you just try to escape to somewhere without dying.

Wouldn't it be weird if the game was mission oriented like Medal of Honor, where you have to complete an objective before you can go on to another level?

It would be "teh sux".

Mission based gameplay can be fun, but it lacks the immersion of the original HL.

the missions will not be formal really. They will probably be more like the informal "you need to get this done" to move on missions of half life 1.

I hope it's done that way. It seems that, from what we've seen, it could have a mission structure... but that's just not Half-Life...

I assume the "mission" will be to find out where the hell you came from, what the hell you're doing, and what the hell is an Antlion!?!1!1

if its a mission structure they'll have everything flow smoothly like in the original and you'll do everything, like proceeding to the mission and returning from the mission to debriefing with G-man or Alyx/Eli/Kleiner

I don't think "missions" as such. More like the original's goals, like finding a way to switch the rocket engines in "Blast Pit" on.

That was the true genius of the original HL , it had missions ... but they were so wrapped up in the story and ongoing narrative .. it felt much more fluid....

I suspect they'll do the / be doing the same ... as I don't think i've seen that style done in many other games ....

It could have been like the matrix special effects .. I mean when virtually every action film and even tv series like charmed are doing it .. then you know it's been overdone. But that's never really happened with hl

I hope they aren't mission orientated.

:¬ /

That would be teh sux.

I think one of the main reasons HL did so well comercially was because of the uniqueness of the experiance. You had no 'gaps', just between area loading times. I expect that HL2 will follow the same route.

Sums it up perfectly.

As for hl2, i'm worried as to how you are going to get from location to location - eg c17 - docks etc. The atv seems like it will be used to get to inland locations, but distances would have to be so vast - as to add the feeling that the place is real - that i think at some point you are going to have the old black out and wake up else were rotine.

CZ is mission based...and that sux :|, lets hope HL2 dosent :)

I agree that hl2 will have goals or missions, but not like you finish and then move to a different place, it will flow and be part of the story.

Mission based hl would be harder to follow since you wouldnt always know what was happening to gordon

i think you will be sent on a misson at the start then it probly all goes wrong... we will have to see

Maybe once in a while someone tells you to go somewhere and do something, and maybe even go with you, but I think thats about it.

To ruin the HL experience by making it like Delta Force or R6 is a mistake Valve cant afford to do.

i agree, that would keep along with the hl1 style, go do this then everything goes down hill

HL: Mission- Escape Black Mesa with all your parts still attached
Mission changed to- Destroy the Nihilanth at all costs (Sacrifice your life if neccessary)

HL2: Mission- Investigate communication breakdown from city 17
Mission changed to- Destroy the Citadel and Combine at all costs (Sacrificing your life is not an option)

I'm sure he's just giving an example as to how "missions" will be in Half Life. It will not be the traditional, *haold tab* to view objectives. It will be exactly like the first where missions are integrated seamlessly into the story so the missions ARE the story. Catch my drift?
