Which means that no one can complain about PCGamer being paid off by Valve. Unless the conspiracy is far larger than we realize... :O

The PC Gamer guys are really big on Steam bashing, it's funny, rightfully so. Later on in the "Killing Box" editorial section they go on to say. Online distribution is the future of gaming but the mistake was to make hl2 users require a connection and steam to play and probably cause casual gamers to pick up an xbox controller for halo instead of a mouse for hl2" (not exact quote :p)

pcgamer is based in bath ill poke a letter thru there door of all the reasons why steam is great!! by hl2.net!

* goes of to make thread! * :O

They're talking about the US edition Joims. Completely different editing team. Though you're right. PCGamer UK bash Steam quite a bit too.

I've noticed their apparent dislike of Steam as well (UK) ... seems a bit over-the-top sometimes. It's not particularly forward looking either - as a totally new idea for games distribution, it was always going to be difficult. Anyways, next time it'll go much better, I'm certain of that!

Any mention of specific HL2 mods in the PCG GOTY (US) issue?

OK, I admit it, I was that lone person under the rock for 5 years. I only knew about HL2 when I got it free with my graphics card. It said that you can download it or pay for postage so I chose D/L. I had never heard of steam and when I finally got round to registering, I just followed instructions, got a little confused, left it a week or two and HL2 had downloaded in the background. Good job I have broadband really. You think steams bad though? well for some applications (esp. music apps) the registration process is more complicated still, AND some programs require little USB dongles to be plugged into your computer every time you want to use the program.
