Hello, all! Having an odd difficulty with my new system with HL2 and hoped you might have a suggestion.

I did some forum searching but perhaps I've got a unique problem or just didn't find the right keywords.

This is a new Dell XPS600 with an Nvidia 7800GTX on XP Home. I can launch and play HL2beautifully.

But when I exit the game, rather than dropping to the desktop, the CRT apparently loses its video signal and, after a few seconds, the monitor simply goes into sleep mode, and I've lost control of the computer. Then I'll have to turn the computer off and back on.

I'm using the latest 84.21 Nvidia driver and everything else seems up to date.

The only other games I have on this PC are Morrowind and Oblivion, either of which I can play endlessly with no problems, even when exiting them.

Hello.

I have an idea. Why don't you finish all your work in computer before you play HL2? When you have played HL2 enough, you can simply turn off your computer since you have already done your work.

i have this same problem... but not with Half life 2... well i do but it will just happen randomly when I'll be doing any thing... the monitor will just sorta shut off, maybe its the driver because i think i have the same one... wait no... you have a different one..

Probably drivers conflict. I have problems when I leave HL2 too, but I can just bring it back to life.

Oh yeaahh!! And use HL2 as a slick shutdown program! That'll do it! Thanks, man, I'll mail you that shiny new gravity gun I promised ya.
