HL2 Reinstallment

Considering the HL2 authentication process, what does a person do that has uninstalled the game after playing and wants to reinstall sometime in the future, say 2 years or so? What if Valve and/or Steam are no longer in business for 1 reason or another, how would you authenticate your disc again at that time?

No one knows. I'm assuming that if they ever go out of business or have to close down Steam, they will release a patch to allow the game to work without Steam.

i imagine that when steam or valve dies or for whatever reason you can't anymore authentificate your hl2 installation a patch/workaround will be released so you'll be able to play it again.

If VALVe dies, they probably won't recieve any more money for HL2, would they?

let me ask this, will people who purchased via steam have to activate it? the main purpose of activation is to validate your copy. well Valve should know if i purchased it.

Well, also, what if you buy it, install it, then you have to format your HD for whatever reason? Then what?

for the OMG time, you redownload it ! steam lets you do that.

I'm sure a steam work-around will be released by then. Probably before the 16th, actually...

yes, that's an interesting problem. what happens if you bought what is basically just a virtual right to play a game (steam account) and you can't use it anymore ?

If you own the rights, then you can, legally, download a copy.
