HL2 - unable to change aspect ratio

on my previous computer, with the same monitor, i had been running HL2 at 1280x768. on this new computer, however, i can't run at that resolution because the box for changing aspect ratio in the video options is locked/greyed out. any idea how to fix that?

i have an LCD monitor with 1280x1024 native resolution and an evga 7600GT graphics card. thanks.

This may be because you graph card does not support so... not really

1. Open Steam
2. Go to the "My Games" tab
3. Right-click the game which needs to be reconfigured
4. Select "Properties" from the menu
5. Click the "Set launch options..." button
6. Add -gl at the end of the line, be sure to include a space before the "-" and anything before it.
7. add "1280" into the line

You can't do it

(I remember that there is widescreen box in the option, anyway.)

so I said that there should be a wide screen function in the option.

You mean to tell us; That once you launch HL2, and main screen is loaded, and you hit option, then Video. Second from the top of main screen of the graphic setting, on the left-hand side, the aspect ratio is greyed-out?

Weird, no one I know of had that problem. I got Normal (4:3) and Wide-screen 16:9. however, mine "Wide-screen 16:10" is grayed out.

Instead of putting -gl, put -width X -height X
Have fun now
