HL2 wants to install on startup

HL2 wants to install on startup, Please help

When i try and run half life2 (I finished it for the first time a couple of weeks ago) by clicking on the desktop icon that i have always used to play the game it comes up with a steam window saying...



You are about to install half life 2

Disk space required 860 MB

Disk space available 103978mb

All files for this game will now be downloaded through steam.


...And this is the DVD retail version too, so of course i dont want to download 860 mb it would take me a week, cost me a fortune and i was hoping to play it now.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way round downloading that much?

Oh well looks like it is just me being stupid, i guess it was just a small update, as it managed to start more or less instantly next time i tryed. but why did it say ALL files will be downloaded?

I think it just meant all 'new files' to be installed. But you are right, if you don't know what it's doing it can be kinda scary, even though it means it is just installing the latest patches and unlocking the files off the DVD
