How did Eli lose his leg?

Ive heard many stories on here, from losing it at Black Mesa, to losing it while sneaking Kleiner into one of the cities, both due to a Bullsquid attack.

Now what is the true story, or at least general consensus?

I have some problems with believing strat guides, sometimes the information is old or inaccurate. But, I think this was stated elsewhere as well. It's the general consensus that Eli lost it to a Bullsquid.

True, but it wouldn't change the fact the event will probably never be rendered into a game, making worrying about it pointless. Until it is, they can say whatever they want.

A boulder could have fallen on him and he might have had to chew it off to survive.

A garg would not have eaten just the guy's leg. Besides, have you ever tried to get ABOVE a garg? They just look up at you and raise their arms. They don't waste time in snapping at you; they'll burn you. If Eli had been scrabbling over a gate, he would've been charred before he even got one leg over.

I know you were just joking but I thought I'd point that out. Gargs don't mess around, they'll barbeque your ass.

That would make sense, it would be another plot revealing tool without having to cram everything into the game. I didn't know this peace of information.
