How does everybody know what Gordon did at Black Mesa and in Xen? Its not like he was there to let everyone know... the G-man isn't talking for sure, Nihilaths dead, and why would anyone ask the Vorts? Any official reason on why everyone knows about him?

let see.....people spread talk of his greatness. he basically saved the world and protected scientist(unless your the person who kills them :D) i mean eli, barney, and kliener are part of the resistance. gordan freeman worked in black mesa with breen. the list goes on and on.

More than likely the scientist and/or guard who opened the Xen portal for you survived. You were the only one able to enter the portal which means you were the only one able to stop the Nihilanth. They were likely the ones to spread Gordon's tale.

Er, people would ask the Vorts. They're aliens looking for asylum. And they hold the Free Man in great esteem.

because he's at the center of one of the most famous games.

Because Gordon Freeman is the embodiment of a uber-scientist geek who takes it upon himself to save the world after the beginning of the resonance cascade and subsequently takes on the Combine head on with the intent of severing their connection to their over-world. This then gave incredible hope for the remaining humans to take back their world from 15-20 years of Combine genocide, oppression, and more.

I like the half life story guide's answer that I just found, I think it makes the most sense. Thanks for your answer though, everyone. Es muy apreciado.

BTW: My new theory (mainly from the story guide website) is that Black Mesa is the only explanation for what happened, and since all of the surviving personnel met Gordon Freeman and saw how he was being a hero, they talked about him,

Eventually, rumors of "The Free Man" who went to Xen to stop the aliens circulated and brought hope to people who were being oppressed by the Combine. And like Narvi said, if they talked to the Vorts about Gordon they would tell about how he killed Nihilath and freed them from slavery.

Agreed. He's a tough dweebo. I'm sure Gordman would kick "Miss Norris'" ass.

I know what I said, and yes I'm gonna start using the word "Gordman" instead of "Gordon" from now on; because Hey! If people are entitled to say "Alex" or "Nihlith", I should be allowed to say "Gordman" whenever I feel like it.

Nihilaths dead, and why would anyone ask the Vorts?

You're right. Why would anyone bother asking the three-armed five-eyed aliens who suddenly arrived on earth why they stopped killing humans and began fighting with them instead?

Because Gordon went off-world to try and save Earth. Remember, there was quite some time before the Combine decided to expand through the Portal Storms--the name "Gordon Freeman" was pretty well known among the marines, too. He was at ground zero when everything went to shit.

The real answer is that he was in the newspapers.

The very last newspaper.

You think a guy could get so famous through word-of-mouth, across several different countries, in several different circles of people from civilians to military? Gordon Freeman was on the cover of the last newspaper ever printed on Earth, the last paper that everybody read. This guy, one of the last known survivors of Black Mesa, ground zero. Everybody saw his face, everybody knew his name.

That's what happened and I'm sticking to it. As Toaster said, it's certainly a more plausible explanation than people passing along the story of Gordon Freeman by word-of-mouth to the point where he's deified by an entire downtrodden populace.

Vortigaunts. Plus Eli could have known of Gordon's exploits in detail through our mutual friend.

I guess the last newspaper makes sense. I wish they had kept it in though, maybe just lying on a table somewhere... Woulda been nice.

If you remember back to Half-Life, everyone already knew you back then. You're obviously very famous for your muteness.

You know, i was playin bookworm delux earlier (dont knock it, its addictive), and i made the word FREEMAN lolz
