How do I install Hl2 mods?

Can someone help me out i purchased the game through steam and i have the gcf files. I am trying to install the halo mod which requires me to put models and materials into the gcf's but i dont know how to do it using GCFscape. You don't need to put the files into the GCF.

Find C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\your username here\Half-Life 2\

In this folder you'll need to make a folder called Halo.

You then need to put all your model files and materials in the relevant folder here... I think...
