How do you edit hl2 to add console support

I want to edit the hl2.exe file but it's launching using Steam.... How do you edit to add: -console to enable cheats???

Launch Steam, My Games, Right-Click HL2, Properties, Set Launch Option. add "-console" without the quotes. Launch HL2 and Console should be enabled.

To enable cheats (And I strongly advice you to finish game first without cheating, and then cheat second time you start game all over, because cheating will spoil the fun). Type "cheat 1 or cheatss 1" in the console before typing cheat command.

Or, you can go into the Advanced menu under the Keyboard options and enable it from there.

But do what Barney Fife says and don't cheat first time around.
