How do you insert props in GMod?

I was just wondering how to insert props in gmod. I've tried to insert things many times by clicking on physical props then trying to insert them. Also I was wondering how to paint models. I got the blood to work but nothing else. Plz help I'm starting to get pissed off at this game because I have so many good ideas but can't fullfill them. Thanks
