How Hydras could have worked.......

It would be nice, if Valve, or someone got the Old Half-life 2 maps, and fixed them up, so they are playable, and released them to all Half-life 2 owners, it would be extremely fun

EDIT: I thought Hydra's weren't under Combine control, I'd imagine they also ran off of electricity, just a guess.

The first thing I thought when I saw the Hydra was "retarded looking HL2 version of tentacle", though it had a much cooler attack.

I thought it was such a copout how they couldn't make things like that work in the second game but could in the first. I wanted my Itchyosaur fight dammit! Before I discovered it was cut I treaded soooo carefully during the canals part. That monster gave me nightmares, and it was also total bull$#!+ we weren't given a bullsquid.

From what I have read and understood, bullsquids were the reason people all migrated to the city. Supposedly in the country/rural areas they were everywhere. We never really went into a rural area, we pretty much stayed in City 17. The Combine would have also probably done what they could to keep them out. So, that's probably why they didn't include them.

I would have liked to deal with the hydra

here's my take on how it would have been cool to fight it.

First of all gordon would have to navigate a system of catwalks suspended over a body of murky water to get to another area. The catwalks would be suspended by cables and be breakable to add a little extra danger.

They would proabbly make a lot of creaky noises, be in a state of bad repair, and sway a bit.

The hydra would reside in the water below and would respond to sudden movements, strong vibrations, or bright lights. Meanwhile after beginning to carefully cross the catwalks while keeping an eye on the glowy blue thing in the water, some combine begin to attack oblivious to the hydra below. It would go after the noisiest fastest moving character be it npc or player.

It would try to stab at the characters, destroying sections of catwalk in the process.
If hit by weapons fire, it will be stunned for a few seconds, but it cannot be killed. Heavier weapons would stun it considerably longer.

If the player gets stabbed by it. the player becomes stuck to the end of the pointy end of the hydra and gets swung around and slammed into walls until he or she is dead. Unless the player can deal enough damage to make the hydra drop him. Even so the player would have to use ladders and crap to get out of the water to safety.

I got past the massive claw tentacle beast WITHOUT cheats :P
I got past it without cheats AND without knowing thqat it was blind

I only found out the second time through, when I had speakers set up (My speakers broke at around the same time I got to the blast furnace, I got new ones the next week)

I didn't like the Tentacles.

Yet I seem strangley drawn to the Hydra, probably because it looks better ;) .

come on the tentacle monster from half life had that "mrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrruuuuhhh chrrrrchk kang! kang! kang! kang!" noise
