Let's all make a guess! I'm assuming the engine took all this time... Hopefully they keep it. And given the fact that between E3 and now... There were so many levels thrown out and so many more put in... I'm guessing it could be done in a matter of 12 months, less if they realize we'd all rush out and buy it if they LOWERED the price on steam. Think about it. Supposedly they earn about $7.00 per copy that gets bought in the store, assuming it costs 50 bucks. On steam, they cut shipping and the middle man... They're making over $30.00 for each copy. If they were smart they'd release 4 more and end it with a half life 6. That would make my day. As long as the ending came within 4 years. My guess for HL3 is less than 18 months. As early as 9 months. Lets see if they want to have one baby, or two before the next release :) If HL3 doesn't come for 5 years, I'll boycot! :bounce:

this speculation is like watching porn and not taking your viagra. It sucks in the end.

I hope that Valve is going to do what the Matrix sequels did: Release the second and third game within six months, but that would be too much to hope for.

It'll probably take around two years to do. Four if we're really unlucky.

Also, I'd rather they didn't tack on sequel after sequel. A game starts to run out of...steam (no pun intended) after four sequels or so. I'd much rather have some closure in HL3, making it a nice trilogy.

I really like what they did with the Combine, so I hope they continue with Gordon kicking their collective biomechanical rear ends. Although it would be a real kicker if the Combine were actually the good guys. (Although Nova Prospekt and the various interrogation chairs, headcrab shells, and other nasty torture implements kind of put a damper on that idea! :P)

Heh, and the fact they harvest humans and turn them into a mindless army of grunts which they carlessly throw into battle.

Other than that, yea, it could work ;)

how long?

2yrs-- 3yrs-4rs-5yrs and then push it back 16months, promise 3 different dates and Be the game of the year in 2009... I really don't care how long it takes-- WOW this game is awesome---- BRING ON THE MODS!

Its just a matter of Laidlaw writing a good enough story. Valve knows that we hold the aspect of the story as much as anything else in the game. I would say 2006 and they show off the updated Source engine

I hope it's not another 6 years! i mean they already got the engine...
