i bought hl2:CE at my local gamestop and i was wondering...

i wanted to know if i could download the original cs and all of the mods that are on steam, even though i bought hl2 at the store. i know i get css, hls, hl2, and hl2:dm, but can i get day of defeat and all of the other games?

i believe the only way to get the backcatalog is buying the games off of steam or buying a steam package of HL2. You wont get it for free, but if your willing to pay, then yes

No offense Deemo but that is wrong, I bought the normal Half-Life 2 retail at a store and was able to download and install for free, Half-Life 1, Counterstrike, Day of Defeat and im assuming the rest of the backcatalog.

I believe you need seperate accounts. To my knowledge, you cannot get Half Life 1 mods on an account made for Half-Life2.

I bought HL generation a few years ago, then added bronze to my account, so i have all the games, so you can have the mods with HL2.

Halflife 1 is not free and downloadable, you must buy it (Halflife Generation £20)

I thought the back catalogue came with CE, but if it doesnt then you'll have to buy the above retail box from a game shop.

edit : DOD is out, the original version for HL1, however the DOD : Source isnt out yet, but if you got CE or silver/gold you will get it once released. Just wait.

Now that I have reevaluted what I did on my steam account my whole last post could have been wrong. Before having Half-Life 2 I purchased Half-Life 1 and installed it onto the same steam account. Later I reformatted and didn't play for awhile. Now that I bought Half-Life 2 I installed Steam and installed Half-Life 2 on the same account that used to have Half-Life 1 and since the cd-keys are tied to your steam account It knew that I bought the games and thats why I installed them fine. Oh and sorry Deemo for not agreeing.

yeh but wif a dial up internet connection the downloading and updating takes forever. Why can't it be more like DooM 3 in that sense?
