If you think about it were all going to be much older when the next halflife comes out.

hell half the population at halflife2.net might be dead of old age by the time HL3 comes out.

How much does this suck? we can just hope that it comes out sooner.

It most likely will not take another six years.

At most 2 more years, they have a great engine to work with, so there is no need for a new one.
The reason HL2 took so long is because vALVE was also working on Source™, HL3 can use Source™ and it only needs a story and development.

What are you talking about? I was just playing Half Life 3 yesterday...oh wait that was soup.

lol you actually put those (tm) things in....

yeah I've already said that in 5 years I'll be 28, maybe I'll have a family, and won't be playing games anymore! I pray not!

Wanna know what's scarier?

One day, the Half-life series will come to an end. One day (in the far distant future), nobody will even remember it.

As Skyline™ said, the technology is there, all they have to do is to concentrate on the plot which is a good thing as we finally might get some answers.

The Source Engine is incredible! I wouldn't be surprised if it is capable if rendering environments comparable to GTA in size.

Before HL3 there will most likely be a few expansion packs using the same engine. Like with the original HL.

So I would say expect more half-life coming your way in near future.

Half-life will never die! it will follow in the footsteps of starwars, trek, the matrix, battletech etc and create its own extended universe in the form of novels and comics! that would be cool!

Not in my family. For you see it shall be an ancient tradition of passing down the crowbar from one familty member to the next.

I'm serious when (and if) I ever have children I'm raising them on oldschool shooters and moving forward from there. I'm sick of people who have only played CS

ROFLcopter! Post of the day!

From experience, I can tell you that you CAN play games when you have a partner, kid and house.

Training your partner to bring you light refreshments during gaming and NOT interrupting the flow of the game takes time but has rewards.

One cool thing about Half Life is that you don't always have to use the biggest gun to complete tasks. Sometimes the lowly crowbar is the only way. I am sure there is a lesson in there somewher to teach my kid. Who would have thought HL2 would be a valueable teaching aid?

Source™ + GTA: SA™ = best game ever on the face of the earth (along with HL2 ofcourse).

You could also teach him/her basic physics with HL2, the horrors of war (when he/she gets older of course) and the evils of arrogance and ends-justifies-the-means-mentalities on the part of Dr. Breen. ;)

My God. We should include HL2 in public schools. Fewer kids would drop out once reaching the age at which it's no longer compulsory. ;)

BTW, stupid question. Do you UK folk spell valuable with an e like that (valueable) or is that an error? I know that's a strange question but it was buggin' me, 'cause I know Americans had a movement towards spelling words supposedly more like they sound and removing unnecessary vowels and just about every day I find another slight language difference. ;) I'm not making a joke, I seriously wanna know. =)

HAHA! I was reminded about the "ends justify the means" episode of south park several times while listening to Breen.

We spell it the same as you guys, valuable.

Hell, I WANT HL3 to come out later. In two years, I'll be out in the bottom rungs of the 'real world', and wont have much time or cash for sweet, sweet videogames. in 6 years, I might not be so busy. x.x

I'm guessing maybe 3-4 years max before we see HL3. Figure we'll see a couple expansions to HL2 at about 1 year intervals, then HL3 using Source. Remember that Vavle has already said that Source can render environments even more advanced then what we've seen in HL2. We're actually waiting for technology (or, more specifically, widely-available technology) to catch up.

errr.. battletech??

never read them, just read an essay about it, erm, battletech is supposed to like mechwarrior, comeon, you must of heard of that game!

erm??? dont you mean, YOU guys spell it the same as us? :)

Gabe said he's going to give the vALVe team smaller projects to work on. A break from long projects, such as Half-Life 2. The team has been through alot these past 5 years. They need a rest. Single player additions I.E. Alyx and Dog expansion packs will appear in a few months, as well as mods from the community.
