You need to log in with the account you registered Halflife 2 to. You cant make a new one. If you do that, you can just choose it from your games section on steam. Steam doesnt suck, its usually the people who dont know how to use it properly.

Log in with your original account, if you can't remeber the password, then get steam to end the email to that email address to get it. Its very simple. You dont need to buy again.

edit: if you are on that account, you dont need to register the cd key again, you just need to press play. The cd key is only registed ONCE.

actually i did that....as i write "old" means same account as was when i registered hl2...

put now play games-slots are empty of active games and there is just "purschase" option

Edit: try test this yourself: uninstall windows, install it again and play install hl2 open account you need and play..answer is simple "no, cant" because it dont even know i got registered hl2 Once before reinstalling windows

Well you have deffinately logged in with the wrong account then simply. Do you have more than one account? Check to see which you logged in with, and what one HL2 is registered to.

LOL, this is fun because i got only ONE account and its the first and last account which i created and simply as my name...ok do you know where i can write some feedback for Valve :naughty: .

Go to www.steampowered.com and look around at the support section and the forums there if necessary. You're problem is really odd. Have you got the retail version of the game or bought from steam?

I did a format 2 weeks ago and I had no problem re-installing my Steam games. I installed HL2 off the CDs (it installed Steam off the CDs too), when it was finished i loaded Steam, logged in with my username, and Steam began decrypting the GCF files, then it downloaded tons of updates for HL2/CS:S. After that I could play.

Have you installed the dvd/5 cds you got to the right directory in steam. You need those to run the game obviously. However you dont need to register the cd key again, just the game content files (.gcfs)

ok i got 5cds, but game contents? strange question: from cd? but where? i have no idea

Yes the .gcfs are on the cd's in your case, which you need to install into the 'steamApps' folder, if you go through and browse your steam folders, theres a folder with your email on in that same folder. When you install the cds make sure they go to that location (programe files/steam/steamApps, or whatever it is for you) Your 'play games' list should have it highlighted after that.

I recently formatted, and after installing HL2 again, I just logged into my old account and it was there and worked fine.
