Got to the first Obvlivion portal..got in, destroyed the portal, got out...got to the next town. Discovered the King of Amulets was missing...and well..was lost.

Went to some town way up north *Teleported* and ended up getting attacked by everybody..and the only save I have is, you guessed it, right after I initiated the fight. So it's a lost 1 hour time. Last time I saved was right...at the end of the Oblivion plane I assume.

Yeah..I gave up that game quick...

If your being attacked by your own people just hold your shield up and use the activate key and they should(if they like you enough) stop attacking you.

activate key?

And I juust met this guard...and the 3 others are NPCs that are following me

Block, and press the Action/Activate/etc button when the attacker is close. The game will tell you whether or not he/she accepts or rejects your yield.

Actually, if I remember correctly, the default is Spacebar. The default for jump was E.

Your first mistake was starting the main quest. Your second mistake was forgetting about the 'quicksave' key (F5). I suggest joining either the Dark Brotherhood or the Thieves guild, MUCH more fun.

Give it some time, three hours isn't nearly long enough to base a review of this game on.

Absolutely. This is undoubtedly one of the best games I have ever played.

Ok, so I joined the Thieves guild since hand, and my friend was like "WTF is an Oblivion Gate?" So I went and showed him Oblivion plane, and we had some fun there. He was all stealing stuff, running from the guards, it was hillarious.

It was funny, because after you guys, and my friend told me how to get away from teh soldiers, the hints at the load screen was like, "You can hold your shield up and hit activate key to have them forgive you" or something. I was lke "FU!"

Yeah, I started on the Oblivion plane right away too, which was a mistake. Now, I've forgotten all about the main quest.

Yeah, there will be plenty of time for the main quest when the other quests are done. There is just so much to do in this game--glad to hear you didn't give up on it entirely! Its one of the absolute best games I have ever played!!

Heh, I remember Q_onfused posted some screenshots a while ago, saying that they're not too much of a spoiler since you get to see the locations after playing for about 1,5h. Well I think I played over 40 (hard to tell actually, since having the game paused still counts) before seeing them (ie. moving further in the main quest) :D.

I don't know, this isn't my sort of game..I'm sure I'll get bored with it rather quickly. These type of games..are just..I dunno..unappealing to me. I'm still kind of forcing myself to play it, much like I did with Doom3 \=

If you don't like it don't play it- it's as simple as that. There's no point "forcing" yourself to play anything as it's just a waste of your time.

I, however, am having great fun.

I hate forgetting to save. Has ruined other games for me to the point of not playing but not for this game.

Rule of Thumb for Oblivion: Always save and realize that the main quest is not fun.

I quite like the main quest.

The first thing I did was to turn off the crosshair and subtitles (something the KOTOR series taught me). I also try to use fast travel as rarely as possible. Many of my favourite moments in Oblivion have taken place during long journeys - it also adds to the 'epic' feel ten fold.

heh I get tired of pulling 2 cougers, a bear, wolves, bandits and even a wisp thingy everytime I want to ride to the next town ..once I arrived at anvil with almost all the above (no wisp) and they killed one of the guards, my horse and a civilian before they were all killed ..it was kinda funny to see all these bodies piled next to the gate

I am finally able to play this game on my computer(as of last night), and I've been playing it for about 5 hours. This is probably the best game I've ever played. They have really improved everything so much (since Morrowind) The gameplay has dramatically been overhauled. Shop owners come from behind the counter to see what the hell you are doing up the stairs of their shop and will catch you trying to pick the lock. LOL. :D

The fighting is ****ing amazing, the bow and arrows are sweet, the graphics and sound are of course - amazing, the repair hammers are and every other element of the economy is perfectly balanced. Items can actually be worthless, instead of having to bother stealing petty bullshit you can just get on with the game.

They really fixed everything that was wrong with Morrowind.

This game is so great! I have to go play some more! bye!

Lol a train! So they will follow you untill the end of time in this game?

They'll give up the chase after a while. Different beasties seem to pursue for different distances.

I prefer to kill em on sight :)

ya the cougars dont give up as they run as fast as your horse does

I was faster than my horse ages ago ;) saves having to get off your mount everytime you want to kill something.

ya I'm just starting to be able to run fast ..can jump really high too ..but there's just something cool about riding a horse you just stole from under the guard's noses ...I refuse to pay for horses

Join the Dark Brotherhood and get the fiercest and fastest horse in the game.

? oh noes! spoilers!! I'm currently doing the DB quests (just finished the Whodunit party quest ...tons of fun ..I just wish there were more party goers to ...well you know) ..I dont want to know about the horse

One of Oblivion's loading screens says to save often. I usually have two saves and one autosave just in case.

I lost mine. He's just disappeared.

Same here. Been doing that since video games had save files. I still manage to **** up every once in a while.. you know, accidentally keep using the same save so If I go back to a backup save file I lose a lot of progress. ARRGGG

That's probably my only complaint about Oblivion, the quick travel thing. I mean, I get why it's there, but sometimes I just wish there were limits on it.

Edit - I, of course, abuse the system and that drains all the fun out of it. I wish I didn't do it, but it's just so tempting! And I was never one to resist temptation very well.

Nice to know this. :monkee:

I had to use it once.

I won't tell the quest details so you dont' get any spoilers.

Basically I had to achieve my goal (well that's quite normal :P) but there was an NPC there to "help" me. Of course he was the first to go into action and the first to die, and I wanted to keep him alive to get whatever bonus I may get for not losing him. Of course the Radiant AI once again proved to be more of a myth, so when I dropped a few health potions on the ground, he didn't pick them up, despite being almost dead.

When was really close to the goal, that was the section I just couldn't finish without him getting killed. So I though "ah, feck it", paralyzed him and rushed to kill the monsters before he charges at them and dies :). Of course afterwards he attacked me and when I used this "shield and activate button" method, he said something like "I accept your surrender" :D

I've been guilty of it a few times too. With my first character I was zooming from mission to mission, getting loads done in each sitting, but not really getting a feel for the game world or the character I wanted to create. It felt as though every city/dungeon/ruin was 1 minute away from every other, and the world seemed pretty tiny.

With my second character I carefully plan each journey - which inn/city to stop in, which quests can be done on the way etc - and am enjoying Oblivion alot more. Things are slower, and often I have to accept that I haven't the time for certain missions cause they're too far away, but there's always tomorrow :)

I think there's a mod to turn fast travel off, i think i might do it. I enjoy running around, or riding around attacking the odd wolf and picking flowers for my potions. If i fast travel, i run low on potion ingredients.

Or instead of installing a mod, just get a ring of self control. Boosts your self control by 50.

:D

It is indeed kind of stupid to install a mod to do something you can actually do yourself.

But... it's so TEMPTING!

"What? You want me to go ALLLLLLLLLL the way to Leyawinn? **** that, gimme my magic carpet!"

Sometimes I am tired of spending 5 hours in town handling business and/or am lost somewhere and I'm just like, "get me the flock out of here!" GTFO - boom! Fast travel. I love it. It's the - "let's not and say we did" - button.

But, arguably the best part of the game is exploring and there is really only one way to do that - on foot.

I don't think it's possible to be tempted by fast travel, because that is the point of it, to be there if you "feel like using it". So if you don't feel like using it then it's not very tempting is it? The reason you use it is because you like it. Kind of silly to say I want to torture myself by removing a part of the game that I like. Do you sometimes wish you didn't have a penis as well? Because you can't stop beating it?
