I had this habit until I realized the image I wanted to give people isn't me. "me" not polite, "me" has opinions that offend some others.

just be yourself. Stop caring about your image and being well with everyone, this is the internet, it's anonymous and you shouldn't give a damn. When you get that into yourself here, where it's anonymous and easy, you can go and do it on the streets.
