If i get hl2 from steam, can i still play SP on other comps?

What i mean is, if i buy half life off of steam, can i still preload the game on other computers in my house and unlock it? because if i buy it from retailers, cant i just install the cds on all the computers i want?

I was able to play CS:S on my laptop and my home computer, so im going to say yes. btw, the retail goes through steam, so both versions will work the same way.

You can play it on as many computers as you can login to that account with, but its illegal to use online with more than one at a time(like it matters
