I'm glad i got an ATI for HL2

FSAA sucks on geforce cards anyway.

Everything above 4x FSAA is emulated and take ALOT of power. You can go higher with AF on a ATI card. If you run 4xFSAA on a ATI you need ATLEAST 8x FSAA on a geforce (and above 4x = emulated)

So if you want good picture quality and nice graphics, then go with ATI.

Edit: a nice plug for hl2.net: "According a Valve officials quoted in forums at HalfLife2.net web-site"

I never even planned to run FSAA but I'm glad once I move on to ATi I can have it there as an option... good for taking screenshots atleast.

On another note...

Damn technology advancement!

There is not a single DirectX9 game out yet, but there's a whole bunch of DirectX9 compliant cards. Just when I decide I'll save for a Radeon 9700 pro, now DirectX9.1 is coming and will "fix" everything plus add new pixel shaders!! Damn it, I don't think I will ever catch up!!

Try to play with 4 or 6x FSAA and 8x AF...you will never play without it :)

Im getting a ATI, im a big nvidia fanboy, but gabe reccomends it, so I must listen.

I thought I could get away without an upgrade for a little while after HL2 gets released. Looks like im gonna have to change my schedule.

I have an Nvidia Geforce IV Ti4200 64mb... No FSAA for me then. :(
Planning to buy an ATI however.

Anyway, FSAA isn't so important for me.

I got a radeon 9700 pro currently but im moving in sept and leaving this PC behind was gonna go for a high end geforce FX but this lil bit of news I think will push me towards Ati Radeon 9800 Pro

ATI = Better AA

NVidia = Better AF

Anyway...According to the latest news AA cant be used in half life 2 which blowz

the 5900 does more with its AA then the 9800pro does:
2XAA on my 5900Ultra looks better then 4XAA on my friends 9800

the 5900 has much better AF then the 9800:
the 4XAF dosn't really slow down my 5900Ultra, it really kicks the 9800 to the curb.

once the 50 series drivers for the FX56/5900 come out, the 9800 will struggle to keep up with the 5600. (seen this 1st hand from Nvidia HQ)

the 5900Ultra undoubtedly will run HL2 much better. ATI just paied VALVe lotsa $$ to use the 9800... and the damn game will run on a GF3 so it don't really matter for them

on ATI cards, is there a big difference in 8x AF and 16x AF?

and how come the "Quality" setting doesn't enable 6x AA?

and when i enable the Quality setting, the fonts in Steam get all blurry, anyone else get this?
