I think the size limit is 100k for pictures. You might like to post in the single player forum. There are lots of posts and replies about being stuck. Also, try this walkthrough, which obviously gives away the plot, but just scroll down as far as you've got and it's helpful.

I can't remeber exactly, but use your imagination. ITs way more satisfying to figure it out yourself. HL2 isn't that hard a game.
