I get the feeling I'm just being really clueless...
I'm stuck rather early in the game. It's a place where there are three rooms with some gas and electric meters in one, about two dozen explosive barrels, some stacked on small platforms on one far wall. Ladders go down to an area below with water.
I stacked the barrels (what a pain!) to reach a ventilation opening high in the wall and found only a suit battery. Tossed the few non-exploding barrels down to into the water, stacked them so I could get through a large round opening into one of the other rooms, where there is another ladder that goes up to one side of that room that is no help.
There are signs in the first room that say, "CAUTION: MACHINERY STARTS AUTOMATICALLY", yet nothing ever seems to start automatically.
I'm pretty sure that what needs to happen is something starting that fills these chambers up with water, so you can swim easily through the passages, but I can't figure it out. I've banged my head on this now for over two hours.
