ok i used to map for HL1 and it was really quite easy to include textures with the old compile tools. I understand the hows and whys of the new .res system and downloaded resmaker but found the program to be almost useless in my case. I have literally thousands of textures/materials in my day of defeat source/dod/materials/ dir and resmaker just makes everyone that connects to my server download everything, including all my models, screenshots... everything. its totally useless! is there any way to make the .res just include only the perticular content I used in my map? i mean this is pure insanity! We're talking hours for my friends to connect to my server. The obvious alternative is to go into my .res file manually and delete all the lines of content that are not in my map... but whats the point of the program then? Didn't man embark upon making tools to make life easier?
I seriously have got to be missing something here. How does anyone go about including the content they use to distribute their maps? I've used content from day of defeat source, converted textures from kami's dod stuff, and some HL2 textures/content. The friends who I am distributing my map to own these games so plz do not worry about stolen content distribution. It seems to be more complex now that it ever was so I figure i must be missing something. Surely there is some automating process for this? I'm not seriously going to have to go through all my in game content and put it into a manually made .res file?
I've looked around online and haven't found help in any forums or found anyone else with my problems, so it leads me to believe somewhere sometime down the line i have really made things more complicated for myself then what it should be. Did i put my custom content in the right place for mapping? should it be in another directory other then my dod/materials and models directories? And why in gods name is it making people download screenshots from my screenshots dir? Man this seems unnecessarily complicated.
