Could someone help me out.. or maybe even better, point me to a tutorial for something that interacts with the player.

Objective: Make a Dangleing bulb

Example: I'm basically trying to make a simple light, plane old bulb in a socket dangling from a cord. I also want it to be able to move when the player moves into it, or shoots it. I've got the keyframe_rope thing down. I've seen kinda the dangle thing in a map similar to iceworld. Someone had G man in the middle dangling from a cord. When you shoot at it, it bounced around like krazy. Thats what I'm going after (cept, maybe a little less spiratic).

I'm still somewhat new at this, but I'm tryin' to learn hammer as quick as I can, thus why I'm making so many different objectives for myself.

I figure I'll need the cord "rope", brush for the light texture, and the light itself all connected.

Any help appriciated on how to do this.

Ok i am nto too sure how to make this but i have done it before umm....
Make a keyframe_rope at the top
Add a Move_rope (what you want to be hanged off this will be what moves)
Add a prop_ragdoll and choose what you want the model to be, name it whatever
Parent the Move_rope to the ragdoll
And then your'll need help with the logic_lengthcontraint

Ok, Mapster is pretty much right, but if you dont want a ragdoll, aka. "a dead body", then you want a prop_physicsoverride at the bottom of that rope. Parent the move_rope to that prop. As for that length constraint you will want to name the move_rope and keyframe_rope, then use the options with the length constraint and select one for entity one and entity two. Then set the distance you want it to be able to stretch to at its max. If you want it to be able to break the cord, unfortunatly I dont have an awnser for the best way to do that.

I think one of the entities has options for cord breakage, but right now I'm not worried about that. And, I found phys_lengthconstraint, thats prolly what you ment anyway. Right now I guess I have no lightbulb/socket model, so I guess I'll just work with some C4 for the time being.

Right now I'm having a little trouble with the "cord", it wont seem to fix itself to the move_rope after I set the rope_move's parent to the C4, rather it (the cord) goes to the very center of the map.

Edit: I was reading something about you cant set the parent in a multiplayer map. I'm making Counter-Strike Source map, so is this why the rope isn't doing what I want it to?
