Is it even possible to get gold on any of the challenges?

After much turmoil, I finally finished the 5th chamber (the one where Glados tells you that it could take a very, very, long time) in under 40 seconds. To my surprise, this is only the bronze. My question, how fast do you have to beat it for gold and how do you do it?

Just memorize everything you need to do to pass the test, and ask yourself if you can do it quicker in any way.

I've gotten gold on least portals on chamber 13, was hard as hell too and i took several attempts.
