Is there a mod to make weapons more effective?

I don't want any more clips for the weapons, or even more weapon capacity. I just want the normal Half Life 2 weapons with more power, like you'd see in something like FEAR or Call of Duty 2.
I remember getting a mod just like it before, but I uninstalled it. And please god, don't suggest the Cinematic mod, I hardly noticed the difference.

More power as in... more kick?

As in, cause enemies to go flying?

I know. That's why it would be preferable if enemies shot me to shit in seconds too.

And I tried SMOD and Substance, but they both hogged my system. I might try SMod again though...
 
Do you have GCFscape? If not download it. Then use it to extract
source engine.gcf/root/hl2/cfg/skill.cgf
Open it in notepad and edit it to your hearts content (it'll also show you how horribly unbalanced the game is towards the player). Then put the edited file in the coresponding folder

Aye, I tried that, but I don't really know which settings would be the best...
And also, there isn't an option to edit recoil on guns, is there?

Thats code-side, methinks.
 
just get smod, and from there start editing the skills.cfg, also go into scripts, you can change the number of rounds in a weapon's mag in the script files.

My personal preference is to give me and the npcs more or less the same stats with some various tweaks for balance.

I usually up the combine's health but also up the damage on most weapons. The smg goes from delivering a meager 5 to a more robust 11, the pulse rifle goes from 8 to around 15. the gunship goes from 3 damage to a whopping 30. The apc rockets go from 15 damage to 100. Snipers go from whatever to 200. The civvies and the metrocops get the same amount of health at 65 and the soldiers go to 100. I also up the amount of damage from headshots and lowering the damage for limbshots. The game becomes a lot more deadly and a lot more tense.
