Did Gordon cause the problems in HL1? Was it his fault?

Freeman is thrust into the unenviable role of rescuing the world from the wrong he unleashed back at Black Mesa.

That is what it says on the Official site.
I'm confused, It makes it sound like everything is Gordon's fault. Gordon is the victim here isn't he?

He released the Resonance Cascade, but the real guys behind the whole event were the Administrator ( Who ordered the Event/sampling to take place ), the scientists in the control room ( Who followed the aforementioned order ), and the GMan ( I know he's somehow linked, I guess in HL2 we'll find out .... )

Gordon was just the catalyst for the event , but the military was told is was just HIS fault, and seeing their reactions to Gordon's presence, I'd guess that they didn't question the orders .....

yes, Gordon was set up by the admin.
the scientist took part in there because he had no choice.
the G-man was the messenger that workes for the admin and he also pushed the scientists to do the admin's bidding.

Well, the G-man is linked to the Military, isn't he? Will we see more of the Administrator in HL2?

aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh!!

get informed ppl. the Admin. of Black Mesa, Dr. Breen, is now your archenemy in HL2, so the G-man and him had their disagreements in the 10 years between HL & HL2.

not just yet, if you still cannot attack the G-man, then the admin is 10x more invincable.

in other news:

I am totaly confused about the endings of half-life and opposing force, like, what did the g-man really do?

gordon is just an instrument for others !! nothing is his fault !

erm the g-man never was invincible hm it just didnt make sense to kill him thats why you could shoot at him as many ammo you had ! or who would speak to you at the end of h-l if the g-man was dead ?? think of it ;)

There were some points where you could get quite a clear shot at him, and just see the bullets bounce off.

Not only was the gman bulletproof, he was truly invincible. Not even with cheats can you kill the sucker. The best you can do is remove him completely with a console impulse command, but that's no fun. I wanted to see him gib.

Yeah, that's what I thought, but this official website totally implies he was more at fault than that! it's an outrage!!!

lol. It's fun getting really mad for stupid reasons.

hm just forget this site or maybe they mean something diffrent than you think

I can't forget it, that's the official site.

They prabably do mean something different, but it doesn't sound that way.

The scientists at Black mesa had been going to Xen for some time before Gordon's little accident in the test chamber. They'd been bringing samples back from there for some time ("before they started getting sampled themselves"), re: the first icthysaur Gordon encounters and the nearby scientist's comment about how long they'd had it in the tank -- and the crystal that you push into the beam had to come from Xen.

What Gordon's little event did was open up a larger gate for the Nihilanth to start sending his troops through in larger numbers. If you've played Point of View you can read Xonxt's thoughts about why the black clad guys are killing off their fellow humans. Not canon I know but POV is a hell of a lot of fun.

Thinking back it looks like the only reason BMRF got teleport technology at all was through their coming here -- it wasn't a human invention. Maybe one of their slaves got lost in a teleporter one day and ended up on Earth; from that the guys at Lambda labs retro-engineered the tech and integrated it into their machines.

Actually they discovered Xen, because the crystals attracted the teleporting energies and deviated teleport attemps to xen.

Where did you hear that? I don't remember that anyware. Got any quotes/links?

If you really, truly, sincerely think about it... it was actually no one's fault. It was just one of those things that happen, ya know... everyone was playing with their new toys and... OOPS! Gordon got high. Yep, what happens during most of the game is the result of Gordon being high on whatever that shizzle was that he was pushin' around...
I stand by my reasoning.

Have you even played the original game?

Maybe if Gordon thought more of safety and maybe let the scientist do some more tests first then what would happen oh! it looks like this opens a portal to another world! and then the whole crisis could have been averted.

Ummm... Gordon wasn't in actual control of much. He was apparently just there to do minor research and actual manipulation of materials...

He could have said "Ya know guys, it doesnt sound like you know much about this, I'm gonna go back home and have a smoothie"

Why would he say that? They did know a lot about it, many scientists you meet in the first level express doubts about running the machinery at that level, but it was apparently ordered by the administrator - who might have been expecting it, like the G-Man.

Yeah, I think it would have happened no matter what gordon did, it wasn't his fault at all! They would have ordered one of the other scientists in there. or sent in a robot.....

Has anybody considered the possibility that the reason many people think G-Man is the Administrator is because he was posing as the Admin? Perhaps those orders to boost the anti-mass spectrometer to 105% etc came from the G-man, not the Admin.

I think at least some of the more senior scientists would be able to recognise the administrator.

But why did the Admin./the G-man want to unleash all the aliens?

they wanted to get xen under their control ,thats why . .

But why not just teleport there?

They had done so before.

gordon was just the catalyst of the events. the admin probably wanted to get at untaped resources on xen, and thus get RICH RICH RICH:cool:! and the teleporting tech was invented by the BMRF. they say so in blue shift. oh, and the g-man is linked to the army! in opfor you can see him in the training courtyard thru a window talking to a guy in uniform. plus in the manual it says that he noticed the g-man checking him out.
