Basically, our boy Jack is finally ready to compromise with an industry he had no intentions on compromising with. He says he'll stop his campaign of pushing legislation to destroy all video games if publishers agree to threaten to stop shipping games to retailers if they sell M rated games to minors.

I interpret this as defeat. Jack Thompson has never won any legal action he has taken on video games. He's starved for victory, and if game publishers take him up on his offer, he'll finally get one. Here's hoping game publishers turn their backs on this one too.

His point is valid, his way of solving that problem is not. He's attacking video game companies like it's their fault it's getting into the hands of children. There's a reason there's no law against it, they put "RATED M" on it...there are age groups. He really could have done something important if he wasn't an idiot.

It's the parents. I am a parent. If you don't know what your kids are up to, you don't deserve to have your kids. If your kid is fat, you are a failure. You are the ONLY source of food to them, so if you can't supply them with healthy food, in the right amounts, you fail at life. Same thing goes with games, and ANYTHING else a kid does. If a 6 year-old kid is playing GTA, that is NOT the fault of those that made the game. It is the PARENTS fault. I don't see how some tosser like Jack can seriously think it is the publishers fault, and try to take them to court for making such a game. Kids shouldn't watch horror movies like "JAWS" either, but you don't see him suing Steven Speilburg for making it, just because some kids have seen it, do you. He's a fu*king idiot.

And xune, you are absolutely right. The only people that REALISTICALLY have any responsibility in this are the stores. But I thought that R16 / 18 meant that it could ONLY be sold to people over that age anyway? Otherwise what the hell is it there for? A proper system and punishment for selling kids adult games should and could be easily done. No-one would complain about something sensible like that.

I wouldn't mind of publishers forced stores not to sell M rated games to kids, as long as record companies and movie studios did the exact same thing with their products. If you could get every publisher of every entertainment medium to agree to this, then lets go ahead and do it.

I don't mind it when people try to protect their children from harmful media, I just hate it when people point their fingers at video games while ignoring everything else that's wrong in this world.
