Patriotism? For what, rocks nobody ever lived on?

Have you ever stopped to think that possibly getting concerned and angry about something this insignificant is how your government covers up actual problems your country is facing?

33 people currently live there. Including 20 marines.

in the past, more than 100 fisherman used to fish there too.

And we don't have any problems. Yeah. Only security problems.

Are you willing to go to war over a ****ing symbol? Its a few rocks in the middle of nowhere, but oh no we have to stop johnny foreigner from getting his hands on it because that would somehow offend our made up- abstract ideas. Hooray!

And those 33 are there because of the current situation. You're also a blind ****ing fool who can't be debated with, because you will never admit your country has issues.

this is a situation based on principle. You can't just run in and claim someone else's stuff and expect it to go over well. I believe the Native Americans might have something to say on that subject. Anyway I doubt that in this case anyone is going to go to war over this. Anyone that thinks war is going to break out over a few rocks that almost no one lives on and a possible hydrocrabon deposit is thinking too rashly. What will happen is lots of political maneuvering, lots of talking, lots of money exchanging hands, and eventually some solution of sorts.

For the record i'm rooting for south korea, since japan is full of perverts and pedos

I really hope that was ironic, numbers.

Yeah that was. :)

The current administration is too soft, we need a more authoritarian military rule.

The way you describe it, it seems they're pretty authoritarian already :p

Among other -reality based- reasons ;
Enjo kōsai (援助交際, Enjo kōsai?), or "dating for assistance" (usually called an escort service in English), is a practice in Japan where high school-aged girls are paid by older men to accompany them on dates and sometimes to render sexual services.

Most observers, especially overseas, regard it as a form of child prostitution, although it need not involve sexual activities; it often does not even involve kissing or holding hands.

Enjo kōsai is linked with the consumerist kogal subculture. It appeared after the end of the 1980s economic boom, and many observers believe that it serves as a way for young girls to preserve the lifestyle of that era, despite their families' more difficult financial situations. [citation needed] Others, especially within the Japanese academic establishment, see enjo kōsai as a coming-of-age ritual that has naturally developed in Japan's contemporary capitalist society. [citation needed]

Prostitution has been illegal in Japan since the 1950s, though the definition of prostitution is narrow—only genital-genital contact falls under the law. Special laws concerning prostitution of minors have been in place since the 1990s. However, enjo kōsai has not been regulated by the Japanese government, as it does not fall within the legal definition of prostitution unless the client expressly pays the girl for sex (which is rare, given the indirect nature of the transactions). Because the age of consent in Japan ranges from 13 to 17, depending on jurisdiction, enjo kōsai clients often cannot be charged with statutory rape.

Nasty.

Meh. Culture = culture. It's another culture, get over it. So Japan is weird. Nobody's forcing you to look at it.

whats your point? so if a neighbor down the street starts acting all creepy weird and stuff I shouldn't call him out on it?

shits to that.

Japan is that creepy weird neighbor, japan i am calling you on your creepyness, cut it out, its gross.

I can't believe some people have voted Japan. The answer on this issue is very clear: it's Korea's island and it should probably stay Korea's.

1. It's a rock. Okay. We got that.
2. Japan is basically saying 'we want your island. Give it to us'.
3. Korea had it first and actually have people on it.
4. This is somewhat like France suddenly telling Britain they should own Hastings.
5. If anybody actually dies over this, it's totally stupid.
6. But until they do, that island is Korea's and Japan's just being a big nasty bully.

Flyingdebris, you are making up your entire opinion of Japan and how it works as a nation based on 4chan?

I actually voted Japan because Numbers was being a bit stupid. I'm not really that bothered. It's kinda stupid and unfair of Japan to want the islands, but at the same time the sort of care level as to their eventual fate is kinda low.

I'm just saying, simply because Japan is... well... weird doesn't mean it's in the wrong. Even though it is in the wrong. It's just... one thing does not lead to the other.

Except the 'Japan is wrong, therefore Japan withdraw' thing.

Pah. Sometimes I wonder why we discuss things when it's clear that nobody will change their minds over anything ever. :D

don't take my posts too seriously, i am merely jesting about japan.

I'm merely siding with south korea on this issue for legitimate geopolitical reasons and making fun of japan at the same time.
