If you look at a game and you make it look better, it’s a better game, so long as you don’t impact the gameplay negatively. So it’s nothing profound and fundamental, it’s just one tiny little aspect of graphics rendering that’s just better now.

Not for me you don't. To make a game better you need better gameplay, I'm sorry graphics don't mean better games.

Non tiling textures is nice, but it certaintly isn't a buying point in my books.

Not necessarily. Look what they did to Mega Man!

I don't agree that if you up the graphics, you up the value of the game. Look at all of the classic games for the 2600, the NES, arcades, Tandy 1000s, etc. Many have been remade and yet none of the remakes can properly capture the same magic as the originals. So no, I don't agree with him that upping the graphics = making the game better. That seems like a great way to hype his weird new technology....

I don't think people other than mappers will appreciate this fully, but it will be hugely noticable in the future to which games use it and which games don't, like Carmack said.

It's a pain in the ass trying to make a winding road/path using tiling terrain (when you want things like white lines facing the right direction), but with this new tech it'll just be painted on exactly as you want it in photoshop.

I'd rather have this than things like bump-mapping, so I can't wait for this tech.
