You should also have the map hl2mpmultitest.bsp which can be found in the other HL2 server thread.

It gives me a "Maxplayers cannot be changed while server is running" when I type "exec servermode".

It works except it says Server Is Full. It won't let me change Maxplayers! Here's my servermode.cfg

net_start
sv_lan 0
deathmatch 1
maxplayers 8

I also tried "8", no go.

Here's how to connect:

Download that mod, follow the instructions. Make sure that the hl2mp folder is one deep (i.e. the path isn't /half-life 2/hl2mp/hl2mp, just half-life 2/hl2mp/)

The follow the Readme and you can just use Find Servers I think. Otherwise you can use the "connect" command.
