Reviewing some information, I found out that the E3 techdemo's were recorded last year/early this year. Perhaps the "september release" that the hacker hacked, is the september release from last year....Especially since the only maps in the hacked release are ones in the E3 techdemo-s. Also, I personally think that one of the big things they are delaying HL2 for, is that Valve wants to sell through steam. I wouldn't buy anything using steam right now. Perhaps they have to completely recode steam, since the code for it was also hacked. I couldn't even get the cd key I have for half-life to work with steam. They might also be working on something to replace the cd-key.

I'll get in trouble and what not, but since the above statement isn't true it doesn't really back up your argument.

Well so long as thats the extent of info about whats contained in the stolen files I'll keep it open for the sake of being fair if people must talk about related stuff.

But I don't want anyone thinking its an open invitation to discuss the content in any depth, sorry :)

Cheers! :E

Thank you, because I don't want to know whats in the leaked stuff.

Yea, i won't say what was in there, but it was much more then the techdemos. There were some parts that looked like they could have been part of the game. Definately some spoilers that i'm sad i saw.

I'm not sure what you're trying to get at PVC, he didn't hack a build that was made in the future, and the build was leaked about 2 weeks after september 30th, so it would make sense he got one from september.

Keep in mind valve said they only got 30% of the game they've alreaty completed. So part of me still thinks it might have been valve themselfs that leaked it, to try to combat people downloading the source, because the second the game leaked out, everyone stopped talking about the source, and um... how the files were being distributed (edit: I removed the way people were getting it) stopped carrying the source code and just caried the leaked alpha. And a leaked alpha is 100 times less bad then a leaked source.

Then again that's a little off topic.

What if it was another games company that hacked the source code, or at least saw the content. Many companies were probably shaking in the boots when they saw the Movies, so they wanted to undermine Valve.

Well game companies arn't really as cut throat as a lot of people think. For the most part gaming companies have a lot of avid gamers in them, and i know that I read in a few reviews that the doom 3 guys are really excited to see what Halflife 2 can do, and half life 2 are really impressed with some of the technology that doom 3 is implimenting. Plus hurting valve wouldn't really help any other games that were comming out sell more, and the risk would be huge if they were caught, probably destroying their company.

Hi guys, i'm a new user in this forum...
Why Valve keeps HL2 source code and HL2 alpha (or beta???) version on an online "computer"... isn't it a stupid thing? Or there's a specific reason? (maybe they wanted to create an excuse to delay the publication of the game because the game wasn't ready yet and the trailers we saw are a swindle?). Another thing: the hacker (he's nickname is "anonymous leaker") said exactly what i affirmed before... reflect. Anyway i hope this is not true... so HEY GABE, KEEP ON WORKIN' HARD!!!
