Firstly, sorry if this has been discussed before. I tried searching for it, but couldn't really find anything.

Anyway, wouldn't it be cool if you could charge at people in HL2 and knock them over? If you're running low on ammo or something, knock them over and club them to death with the crowbar while they're trying to get back up.

I know no one knows for sure, as the game isn't released yet, just wondering what other situations people can think of for knocking people over.

Perhaps knocking over scientists and hearing their complaints? "Gordon, what are you doing?!" and "Oh, I appear to be seriously wounded".

Using the physics system, chuck a full can of pepsi at a soldiers face, and watch him curse "My eyes, My eyes, my bloody eyes!"

i dont see why this isnt possible, you could do it in MP2.

Iirc gabe answered an email in the valve info thread where he said that you can knock npc's over without killing them.

Yes, and they tried allowing Gordon to be knocked over, but it didn't play well...

Omg, i hope they put it back in for multiplayer. Once in my life I would love to knock some of those annoying players on their asses, you know, spammers , cheaters , people that block you etc etc.

I doubt characters will ragdoll when you knock them over, however, because once you ragdoll a character, it's arms and legs can end up in all sorts of random positions, and it's hard to then animate them getting back to their feet. I'm not sure how MP2 does it, but it looks pretty good. The only problem is that it seems to cause lots of goofy clipping issues.

I think Gabe mentioned a while ago that when someones knocked over it's scripted.

There is an animation for them when they're knocked over.

thanks for the replies. apologies if my punctuation isnt good, i'm on a pda.

anyway, despite playing mp2 i never realised that! i'll have to play it again soon.

nice to hear that Gabe gave some hints about this. rushing a combine and hitting him when he's down appeals to me.

In MP2, try going to the first resturant scene where that "cowboy" guy ally is. You can slo-mo jump into him and he falls backwards in slow-mo. You can do it over and over, all over the room. Sort of cool.

That was a lame way to get past enemies in MP2, though. At that part where you

don't have your gun, coming out of the hospital

you can bowl your enemies over by jumping at them and knocking them down. I'd hate to see that in HL2, leaping at a Combine soldier and sending him to the floor. Repeatedly.
