Hell, if this is a competition I'll take being an idiot over a drug addicted teenager any day.

Oh, that's hitting below the belt. Or it would be, if I was actually a drug addict. I did coke a few times in high school several years ago, haven't touched it since and have no plans to. Somehow, despite that I've ingested illegal substances before, I still managed to graduate high school with honors, get a 99th percentile score on the SAT (as well as on almost every other standardized test I've taken in my life), be accepted into a very good university (they call UNC a "public ivy", one of the top five unis in the US), and generally kick ass in almost every aspect of my life.

I'd rather be a well-rounded, interesting, successful, and open-minded person than an idiot, even if it means occasionally taking a few drugs.

Staticprimer, too bad you couldn't make it... luckily the Obama rally was on-campus so going to it was as simple as printing a ticket off the internet and walking about 15 minutes to the stadium Ron Paul is going to stop by UNC soon as well for any of you rabid RPites that live hereabouts.

I can tell you that many members of my family are churchgoers, and that all of them have sat through sermons they didn't like or agree with, some more volatile than others. Even had their children baptized by the very people they've had issues with. And yet they keep going because it's part of their community, and a single pastor who enters the pulpit doesn't define their entire religion or church for them.

I find it sad that many people on this forum are so naive to actually realize that the facts behind the recent primary votes show this to be true. In Pennsylvania, over 92% of voting blacks cast their ballot for Obama. 92% is a tremendous proportion, and clearly supports the above quote.

So again, what is your point with this Wright thing when you are willing to give white preachers that said the same if not worse a pass?

I think the difference here is that Obama sat in the pews for 20 years listening to the afro-centric rhetoric coming out of Wright and clearly supported such ideology. It wasn't until Obama was going to announce his bid for the Presidency did he dis-invite Wright from the announcement ceremony.

If Obama somehow didn't hear these incindiary comments during 20 years of being in that church and he thought his Pastor was a non-issue, why would he dis-invite him to the announcement?

I also find it quite disingenuous that Obama originally said that he never heard these words from Wright, and during his mediocre speech on race prior to the Pennsylvania primary he said he would not disown Wright and likened him to how he cannot disown his own white grandmother. It wasn't until after this past weekend, where Wright spoke these same comments at countless venues did Obama finally see that Wright didn't have his back anymore so Obama threw him under the bus.

My question for Obama is, "What did you know, and when did you know it?".

There has never been anything in Obama's writings, his words, his senate record, or his upbringing, to suggest some affirmative action, white-hating conspiracy.

I will say that Obama has done an incredibly good job keeping his nose clean in regards to him saying such things on the record.

But he has made a few comments which raise questions.

The first of which was when he referred to his grandmother as "your typical white woman".

And the second were his comments to a bunch of swells in San Francisco which clearly showed his elitist attitude toward middle-America (blue collar white people), He said:

And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.
And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.
