My half-Life 2 game is SO FRIGIN LAGGY. idk why, it just is. I tried detting my grapihcs settings to their lowest state, but no change, why is it laggy, and how can i fix this?

Shasta, SHUT THE FUCK UP.

Stumpano, here is a link to a tutorial to find out your system specifications: Link

Also, sorry to butt in, but dxdiag will also list a lot of that information, in addition to telling you what version of DX is installed. I, being lazy, am ALL about the least amount of effort possible. Just hit run (or Windows-button + R, for lazy people) and type in dxdiag. That will list off most of your important specs. The important information will be found in the general tab, the graphics tab, and if anyone wants to know your soundcard, your sound tab. I would post screenshots demonstrating, but then you'd all know how shitty my comptuer is.... lol.

That is exactly what my tutorial tells him to do ;)

if ur laptop is one of about a billion models....it gonna be hard to get hl2 running smoothly at all, short of dropping everything down the the minimum specs. however, if ur lucky enough to have rich parents(like the guy whose laptop i'm fixing), hl2 runs quite well......all in all....u get what you pay for

It seems our benefactors enforce a form of sensorship, i.e. deleting posts. I distincly remember posting a mockery of the thread-starters post, and Beerdude's reaction to it can be seen in his post. I didn't even get a warning PM. How sad.

Unless it got lost in the post.

Te he he. No pun intended.

Actually, it's called "Moderating". You know, deleting posts that contain offensive language to other forum visitors?

I NEVER use offensive language (on the odd occasion, I will use a ** version). Some people will never learn to use titles that make sense / mean anything, or to post more than "help! it doesn't work! What should I do? KTHNXBY" (and usually in the completly wrong forum). Make fun of their posts every now and then and they will get the idea and start to think when they post / start a thread.

"every now and then"? The last 3 days, ALL you have been doing is making fun of newbies that often have absolutely no idea on how to navigate a forum.

Oh, and you NEVER use offensive language? I've seen you use a few offensive words. But it's not only that. It's your entire "Oh, shut up, nobody cares." stance that pisses everyone off.

Dude, I am so sorry. I glanced over it, and I thought you were walking him through device manager.

I stand with Beerdude on this Shasta I don't know if you caught your girlfriend with another guy but your are rude nowadays.

No, she caught me in bed with another guy. Lol.

Actually, I'm not trying to be rude, or troll, or anything like that. I just get annoyed when people don't use the smallest bit of brain power when making a helpful title for a thread, or post a problem but no spec's- when obviously they would be needed, or say they have a problem, but don't say what it is. They are just being lazy, or retarded. Don't you agree?

Yeah Shasta I agree people don’t post helpful hints to be helped sometimes like their system specs and all, but don’t let that get to you, you can always say I cant help you without specs and be more specific or something like but you keep barking at whoever comes here and make mistakes by not being specific. This will give you a heart attack meng.

Not everyone knows that details are important either. If I had your attitude, I'd be a mass murderer by now.
I work for Geek Squad, and without fail, every day, I have a customer come in and say "my computer is broken", or "my computer is sick". Or, better yet, they list me off the windows error code and expect me to know what it means. Or give me the model of their comptuer and expect me to know the specs.
But what I've come to realize, is that helpees don't know what the helpers need. Obviously, they don't know how to fix the problem, that's why they're here. If they don't know how to fix the problem, that also probably means they've never fixed other people's problems, and that also means that they probably don't know what we need to help them. As far as they know, their problem is a common problem, and we would know how to fix it right off the bat. As far as they know, we DO know what's wrong right off the bat, and we've seen it a thousand times.
Now, I really hope that I didn't offend anybody new to seeking support, I had no intention of degrading those seeking help (because it was me 20 posts ago). I'm just trying to explain to Shasta the position you're in. Because apparently, Shasta doesn't remember when he/she was in that position, 219 posts ago.

Good. But, unfortunately, a lot of these people that come to ask for help don't know all that; often, all they can tell you is that their computer is a "Windows XP".
Secondly, I agree with you on the title part. A possible idea would be to show a help screen whenever a newbie tries to post in Help & Support. This has been suggested to Munro (the owner of the site if you didn't know :p), but he's been too busy guarding lost treasures of the deep.

How is it that even though I just got a new computer with all my specs higher than my old one and yet halflife runs way slower than it did before. Here is my old-new comparison:
1.5 ghz - 2 ghz
512MB Ram - 1Gig Ram
64MB geforce - 128MB integrated (Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML)

I got the XPS M140 from dell because it boasted about gaming but it appears that the integrated graphics card with twice the power as before performs half the job. How can I remedie this?

Also:
paging file max=3000MB

64MB geforce - 128MB integrated (Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML)
This is teh suck. I advise you to buy a new videocard.

Well we're sorry to give you the unimaginable bad news, but surprise Mr. Underdoggmm: You need a very nice and decent Graphic Card to go with that Power-House of yours.
See, no matter how much your fast and powerful system is, without the help of sub-independent Video card (AGP Or PCIe) your processor will have two jobs:
1) Running the actual game files
And
2) Running the actual graphic files.

Also your memory will have two jobs as well:
1) Restoring game files
And
2) Restoring graphic files.

This will make your PC move all of your system/owner files, that are currently running, into your windows swap or virtual memory, Paging area ever growing space, occupying most of your 3GB paging space. And this making your Power-house run like a mill.

In that case, making the ever-needed Video card the unavoidable necessity for your ever-so-powerful Dell.

Did I say this right people?

Solution: Get a 256MB, at least 400MHz Core-clock, 400MHz RAMDAC, ATI Or Nvidia Graphic Card, and you’re Power-House will be complete.
