Legally why they had to Fake the "hack"

Amneziac: the reason why everyone thinks you're wrong is not because they haven't yet seen the light.

It's because you're wrong

It was not a fake. It was real. In fact, I jsut uninstalled everylast one of it from my system.
/me breathes a sigh of relief and needs a cookie

lol, I dont think its a big deal anymore and Ive already put it behind me, but all I have to say is prove it Rayman :P , I know for sure other than valves word, we have nothing in evidence that shows exactley what happened.

what still puzzles me,, Is htf someone managed to download 3.6 gig of information without them noticing ... until it was too late !, lol. It would of taken ages, , like 1 - 3 days, unless they had a T1 or T3 connection..? It still puzzles the life outta me, but meh

Yea this thread is a good read, Im not sure what to think but the thread starter made some realy intresting views on what happend, Realy gets you thinking dosent it.!

It does, Man id really like to see it through gabes eyes. lol, checking his emails that night, and forgetting to turn Outlook off cause he couldnt be arsed :P

i didn't bother to read this thread, probably gonna repeat or just look ignorant but it is impossible the leak was Valve based and 'Legal'.

The engine is their own ****ing creation, they would not have compramised that for anything. Plus they had licensed havoc stuff which they are legally responsible to protect. The whole leak thing possibly opened them up to company crippling lawsuits. Don't be a conspiracy ridden moron, it makes me sad people exist like that.

Erm, not to harp on anyone, and I don't agree with the guy making the speculation, but can anyone post an official statement made by someone from Valve saying that they delayed the game simply because it wasn't finished? I've gone through this entire thread and haven't seen any quotes on that...(and not talking about forum, talking about something from a news site, magazine, etc)

#1. This is better than any news site.

#2. Im sure you can find it in any hl2 fansites archives...or ^^

It's in the Info From VALVe thread...

Ok, so I guess there isn't an official statement published anywhere else but in these forums (which I have yet to find any direct statement, nor has one been posted in this thread). I mean it's obvious I think that Valve wants a lot of people (the general public) to believe the hack was the reason for the delay even though it wasn't. The only people they've told that the delay was simply because they were no where close to finishing the game are the HL fans, and most of the HL fans know better anyway...

Valve didnt fake the leak etc,

Some of you are complaining about the delay and want the game even if not finished now, but you people would also be the first to complain and flame Valve about bugs etc

So leave Valve alone they are just trying to finish the game which will be the greatest game ever made

Ok i read the first 2 pages of all this.....

I pre ordered my copy from EB games and guess what i still havent been charged not 1 penny for my pre order so i dont understand how Valve or the gamestores is making money off intrest for this game.

I think the only way they get like $5 dollars is if your in the store and put money down on it and they hold the game for you when it comes in but as far as credit cards go if you pre order you are not charged until the game ships for delivery.

Its pretty simple they didnt start making up stories so they could get rich without producing a game.

but....but.....amneziac said that's how the industry worked. After all, he worked at Activision and saw PowerPoint presentations

ATI would sue you saying you knew this the whole time and lied for their money, end of story. So they needed an excuse to delay it, its the difference between First Degree Premeditated Manslaughter and Third Degree Accidental.

"Premeditated Manslaughter"? I was under the impression only murder could be premeditated... And "Third Degree 'accidental'"?  Heh, what the heck is that. Purpose, Knowledge, Reckless, Negligent... there's no "accident" (unless you're britney spears - 'oops, I did it again')

i'm surprised no one showed the quote where gabe says that the game was not delayed due to the leak.

here:

Many said that if Valve wasn't hacked, we would see HL2 in 2003. Sadly, we wouldn't have.

Gabe: no

Hi Mr. Newell,

I'm gonna ask you a question assuming HL2 will release in 2004. If Valve
wasn't hacked, would we really have seen Half-Life 2 on 30th September
or later on in 2003?

It would appreciate it if you could answer this. It wouldn't really help
the situation or anything, but I would just like to know.
