i'm just messing around making a little prison map, here's what i'm tryin to do atm
each cell has a window in the back, and i want the light from that window to cast through the cell bars and i want each individual bar to cast it's own shadow. i'm using the prison cell models that come with the sdk.
how do you do this?

Well there are several ways. For instance making an outside and using an env_light aimed the right way. Or what I'd do is just make a light for each window. The compiling will shadow everything for you.

ah
i had an environment light outside, pointing in the direction of the cell windows.
only thing is the shadows that it casted inside the cell were just a block shadow of all the cell bars, instead of a shadow for each bar.
i was wondering if light can't pass through spaces in .mdl's
well thanks for the help i'll try one of those

What entity are you using for the model of the bars in the window? Check the properties and make sure Disable Shadows is set to "no" and things like that. If that doesn't work you can always create small world brushes within the model to create shadows for you.
