The part of the e3 2k4 video where Gordon is in Ravenholm(the part when he picks up the sign) and the lights are casting different shadows on the objects around them, is that dynamic lighting, or what?

Probably just shadows created when the map is compiled into a BSP.

Why do you think they decided to use a compiling system instead of doing what D3 does - making it realtime. Also does anyone know what the lighting preview works like? If it doesn't work like UT2003/4 engine or better, then i probably won't make maps with this engine... well... maybe just for the physics :)

why is everyone like, ooooo iwant good graphics, if this game doesn't haev the bestest graphics evar, im returning it! Gameplay matters, graphics do not. GAMEPLAY GAMEPLAY GAMEPLAY!

Unified lighting vs a mix of dynamic and lightmaps saves on performance.

While HL2 and D3's mini specs are close to eachother's, HL2's is still considerably lower.

They didn't use dynamic lighting so they could save on processing power. This helps Valve lower the minimum specification.

Maybe to you, but for some people, good graphics and an immersive atmosphere can and will affect their experience.
