When it first released, the loading times were around 20 seconds for me to load the next level. Now they are 40 seconds or so. Why? Is there any way to improve loading times?

My specs:

2.52ghz Pentium 4
GeXCube 9600XT Xtreme
4 x 256mb ram (1 gig) ddr-400
ASUS P4P800-Deluxe mobo

I think thats all that matters in this situation.
Thanks in advance,

-Max

There is a lot less 'loading on the fly' now. Almost all of the game data is preloaded. This is to prevent 'hitches' (as they were reffered to in the last update), also known as minor stuttering.

I guess no... I think the loading times depends on how huge the level is... the larger the level... the longer it will load.

OK, thanks anyway. If anyone has a solution, please contribute.

try defragmenting with windows own defragmentor, gave a small if noticable drop in loading times for me (last time i did it was less than a week ago)

40 sec... Thats nothing. I need to wait more then 2 min. Ow well my pc is one big mess. I need to delete some files and I really need to defragment.

My specs:

2.7ghz pentium 4
Sapphire Radeon 9600XT 256MB DDR MEMORY
2x 256 RAM

I dont really know the names of the other stuff. :o

Defragment it really helps also if you can load the game on the outer tracks of your Hard Drive this will also help a lot.

Loading is over a minute for me

2.0ghz AMD Athlon
9800pro
768mb PC2100

Just wondering d00ds....if I scrap the ghey pc2100 and get 512mb of PC3200, do you think the loading times will decrease ?

No.

If you want faster loading spend the money on a new Hard Drive.
Maxtor has a 250GB 16MB Buffer Hard Drive for $149.00 use this Disk for your Games it will speed load times a lot. The first game you load will be the fastest so on and so on. :)

If u have your hard drive partitioned!!!
lets say windows files on C:\,
Music on D:\,
Applications on E:\,
Games "excluding HL2" on F:\
and finally HALF LIFE2 on G:\.
and partition regularly improves performance for me. I DEFRAG every 2 DAYS.
really helps my loading times. :)
Also have HL2 on its own partition!!!

I don't think you're specs have anything to do with it.... steam hates us all.

It would be nice if valve updated the option dialoge. Given the graphical nuances HL2 is capable of I expected a page or two of sliders and checkboxes in the graphics menu when I first ran HL2. Rather annoying that valve took the graphics-noob path of video control options, leaving me dredging the con.sole for tweaks and values to play with.

edit: got rid of text ad with ugly pink period.
