A teenager from Durham was killed at the house where he lived in Wilmington on Friday night as officers investigating the theft of two PlayStations arrived to search the house, authorities said.

Peyton Strickland, 18, was shot about 9:30 p.m. during a search of the Wilmington house he shared with three others.

Mike Rhoton, one of Strickland's three roommates, told the Star-News of Wilmington that Strickland was shot after answering the door. Strickland was unarmed, Rhoton said. "I don't understand why shots were fired," Rhoton said Saturday.

As Strickland approached the door, law enforcement officials knocked it down and "there was a bunch of yelling," Rhoton said. "Four or five shots went off, and they killed him.

Rhoton, who attended high school with Strickland in Durham, said officers mentioned a search warrant but didn't provide a copy.

There are a ton of other articles about it from the past few days, just google Peyton Strickland and Wilmington North Carolina if you want to read more.

This is pretty ****ed, this kid went to my school last year and the cops just busted the door down and shot an unarmed person... that's criminal.
