I've got Windows 7 (64 bit) and ATi X1900XT.

I have set the refresh rate to 85hz, but when I play a game, it has it's own resolution settings. When I set it to the resolution I want, I get stuck with a low refresh rate, and there is no in game option to change it.

I need something to force the refresh rate at certain resolutions.

Ati Tray Tools is the obvious choice, but I want something that natively supports Windows 7 instead of hacking the installation.

Riva Tuner seems to work for ATi also, but so far, it looks like it's also got an unsigned driver for Windows 7.

Is there any other program out there that I can use?

I've never been able to force a refreshrate on an ATI card. Can't help.

Random idea. If you have a 2nd DVI spot try plugging your monitor into that.
I wonder if it's just a driver issue with current ATI drivers.

Doing a search it seems a lot of people are having issues like this. Both CRT and LCD.

edit: what about powerstrip?

Solution: Get an LCD
Yeah, one day. I wish I could afford it.

Asus, I think you are misunderstanding me. A game selecting a low refresh rate on it's own is pretty common, and isn't necessarily unexpected behavior.

I know that I would be able to force it (what is called a refresh rate lock, which I'm sure you know all about) The problem is that the program I usually use to do so is ATi Tray Tools.

Windows 7 requires signed drivers. ATi TT doesn't have signed drivers, so it fails to run.

There is a work around: http://www.bayareatechpros.com/2009/05/ati-tray-tools-with-win7-64bit/

which uses this: http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=dseo

However:
First and foremost; you are using this software at your own risk, we do not take responsibility for any damages to your system, but we do not believe it can harm anyone anyway. Secondly, User Account Control (UAC) must be disabled in-order to use this tool as well.

I don't necessarily want to disable UAC, but I don't see any other option if I want to use ATi TT with Windows 7.

That's why I was asking if there's some other program to force a refresh rate, and maybe it will work in Windows 7 without any issues or special hacks.

Some research revealed that Windows XP defaulted to 60 hz for 'compatibility reasons', but Windows 7 doesn't do that.

So, I just figured it was 60 hz because of my experience with XP. (there is no way of knowing the refresh rate from in-game)

But playing the game, it's not like the screen is flickering or anything. I would definitely know if it was 60 hz, in other words, so it must be higher.

Still, I can't wait for ATT to be fully compatible.
