Looking at HL1 to explain 2..

well, just got thru it to try to gather some info on the HL2 story, its late so not much in this first post, but

1. G-man says "we" now have control over Xen, who's we, and why do they want it?

2. take a look at the attached screen, looks like possible combine technology, as it has the same sound and same motion as the thumpers on the beaches....

It's pretty obvious Xen was under combine control before you killed nihilianth, (now that you killed breen, i guess they won't love you much).

But i think it doesn't have the same use as the thempers, it's more of a mining thing to me.

one thing that most people assume, but has caught a snag after playing the game again, is that the resonance cascade caused the portals, ect...

Now this isn't nessasarily true, because in HL1 there were facilities to reasearch the creatures brought back, and also the core that was used to create portals to xen.

could the Gman have caused the cascade failure in an attempt to close the gateway to xen before the combine foound out about earth? maybe that was the real deal behind it, and maybe he was just too late...


edit: well, i'm not so sure that the thumpers are just for keeping the ant lions away anyways. why the different sizes, and why in only certain areas of the coast? ahh well, prolly right.

But he does speak after he should be dead according to my book.
I do not believe g-man caused the resonance cascade, I believe Breen caused it, and the g-man tried to stop the invasion. ie nuking BMRF

well, as i said. i think the thumpers might be mining equipment, and they just also happen to serve the purpose of scaring away the antlions.
