Lowering the gun

I noticed in the new e3 movie that at some points gordon lowers his gun - kind of tips it down. I noticed it in thegraveyard scene a few times, and with Eli and Alyx.

What is this? Is this him lowering it to show that he is not going to shoot? Or is it a way to sprint? Or what?
