Well not viruses...just Lua scripts that are harmful. For example, a script called ulm.lua gives clients full server access when you start servers. Stands for "Uber Leet Mod"
The maker has tried respreading the virus under different names..like these:
UFM.lua
UCM.lua
test.lua
ah.lua
There's one called ERAT.lua made by Racehook...not sure what it does.
oma2r3fxc6g.lua- No idea either.
racehook.lua deletes maps/vmf files in your gmod/maps folder.
racehook3.lua- Description here by aVoN.
Z.lua- pretty much dead..gives clients ULX access and add's a z to the end of your server name.
urn.lua- Annoys the server host/shuts down the server randomly. Made by Evil1.
initalize.lua- Spams the server with text and props, messes with your gmod folder.
How do they spread? Through .res files. Someone downloads the script off the server, and the script creates a .res file for every map in your gmod/maps folder. Then when you make servers, people download it from you.
But it is very important that you recieve protection agaisnt these viruses. It is possible, through Lua, to delete vital files from your computer.
A couple methods of protection:
"cl_downloadfilter none" Stops from downloading files. Only problem is, you can't download models/maps.
Night Eagle's antivirus. Prevents harmful scripts.
You can make an empty .txt file for the viruses listed here in your lua/init folder so you don't download the files.
If you're entering a server and your downloading ANY .lua file, make sure you check your lua folder and delete the file. You do NOT need to download .lua files off a server, ever. So it's probaly a virus.
This has been fixed in G-Mod 10, too.
