Major problems that won't be addressed even if bug reports are made.

Firstly, the biggest problem with TF2 is the FOV. I heard someone mention that it's hardcoded and unable to be changed. Please tell me that this isn't true. It's very hard and frustrating to play a FPS with a 10 degree field of view.

Second, the lack of grenades. This is the sequel to TFC? Seriously? This isn't a joke? Wow. Grenades were half the fun of TFC, trying to time them perfectly to throw into a group of enemies, especially the deadly engineer's EMP grenade. Yeah, class based weapon reliance is good, but the grenades were class based too and added that extra bit of strategy.

Third, the map sizes. Is it just me, or does 2fort seem like its 50% smaller? Also the other maps seems infinitley smaller and more concentrated. It's not really an issue, unless you like bigger spaces to make more use of the strength and weaknesses of the classes.

Fourth, the respawn timer. Wow, its Counter-Strike! I heard that this is a server variable that can be turned off. I hope to god it is.

Other than feeling like TF2 was rushed and made specifically for consoles and then ported for the PC after the fact, it's a great piece of work. The art style is fantastic, and the..well, the art style is fantastic. But this isn't a sequel to TFC, this is a watered down version of TFC and honestly feels like The Phantom Menace was to The Empire Strikes Back.

I know this isn't the valve forums, but I really needed to vent this. I hope to god these bugs (and they are in my opinion, seeing as how they effect gameplay, strategy and the fun factor) are fixed, but as the beta is live to the public and it's being released next month, i dont envision how this is going to get any attention.

Sadly, the community outdoes the company that makes the game again, and I will be playing the superb Fortress Forever unless i feel like playing cramped-feeling, arcade-style shooters.

:x

I'm not even sure why I'm replying to this obvious blindly-biased report, but there are things completely unrelated to TFC/TF2 comparisons that I find rather funny here.

Firstly, TF2's FOV is pretty damned standard. Probably 90 degrees. I'm sorry if you generally tweak your game for a 360 degree view. Oh well.

The second point is a pure Team Fortress comparison, so I wont even touch it.

The third point - well TF2's pretty well balanced if you ask me. There are some very open areas and some very tight areas. I'm sorry, but you need BOTH to "make more use of the strength and weaknesses of the classes." Unless -- are you talking about TFC?

Now to the fourth. I really have to laugh at this one. Christ, respawn times are like Counter-Strike? I don't know if this means you've never played Counter-Strike or if you only played TF2 for five minutes. The only time TF2 turns into Counter-Strike is if the teams stale-mate for the entire length of the map time and it goes into Sudden Death. Not that this response really addresses the topic, but then that would be a TFC comparison.

the fov statement was reflective of the fact that weapons take up most of your screen and the view feels extremely cramped. this is supposed to be a sequel, not a half-assed remake.

1. The field of view is standard and exactly the same as CounterStrike.

2. Grenades were spammed in TFC. A person watching the game for the first time would think the use of grenades in the game was ridiculous. Anyone not thinking in this way is probably proficient in the use of grenades and does not want them to go away because they already have the 'skill' to use them to greatest advantage (often in extremely ridiculous ways). Note that this is a skill and not a strategy or tactic. Removing grenades focuses the classes and takes all the grenade stupidity away.

3. The respawn timer is short and keeps players out of the game for a few seconds after you kill them...

4. If the maps were any larger the short-range classes like pyro would get weaker not stronger.

I think you're confusing the two terms, "remake" and "sequel". Since when was a sequel supposed to keep the same gameplay elements completely? Sure they have the same maps, and this is partially a remake, but they switched everything over to a slower gameplay type. notice Bhopping doesn't work. I honestly think you were just hoping for what Counter-Strike Source was to CS1.6. Just a port to Source...prettier TFC. If that is indeed what you're looking for, Fortress Forever captures that perfectly. But this isn't just a remake, it's a Sequel/Remake I guess I could call it. It kept some parts of the game, and replaced others. The respawn timer is another way to slow the game down a bit.

And the screen does seem slightly cramped, but I've not had a gripe about it quite yet..it seems like it accommodates well.

And you're correct, it won't be fixed through "bug reports" because these truly aren't bugs. They are opinions. Posting on the steam forums would be better for this idea.

QFT.

Your opinion is not a bug.

I heard that TFC fov is 75 degrees. This causes motion sickness for some people. 90 looks kinda funny, because unless you have an enormous wide screen monitor, your computer screen only actually takes up about 30 to 40 degrees of your vision

The only 'major problems' I have with this game is that it randomly freezes and then crashes during gameplay or when a server is changing and I have to reset my computer and reload....That and the stuttering that happens (but strangely seems to disappear after a few minutes of playing)...
*and I hope that Valve can fix these issues*

"Respawn timer's like counter-strike." This alone makes all your opinions useless. There's a term for it - phail.
