How do you make a dm match for half life 2?

make a map, but what software or download do i need to start with?

k im updating the files now that its downloaded but now death match doesn't work. i double click on it and the loading screen comes up and just completely exits to my desktop. I tried restoring my cpu but that didn't work. What is going on?

It's not the hardware. Don't bother checking the CPU... and *never* reformat the hard drive... way too many people reformat the hard drive when they have a problem, and that is ALWAYS the WRONG, most painful solution.
Since it's not working, it's just a configuration problem that you can fix from within Windows.
You probably just have to wait until it's done updating the files before you try to open HL2: DM. If you tried that, open HL2, close it, open Counter-Strike, close it, and then try opening HL2 DM... perhaps that might fix it.
By the way, use the Source Mapping forum (this is the HL2 Deathmatch forum), and watch the video tutorials on how to start out with Hammer (which is the map editor). The people there are more knowledgeable on how to get it working.
