Anyone else notice that the third rotating pane has changed in the Stress test? It now has a coppery, translucent grid pattern. It used to be a coppery water ripple. I wonder why? I suppose they're trying to test a new effect. It just caught my eye last night.

I apologize if this is ultra-old, but I did a quick search and couldn't find anything on it.

only "special" people who bought CZ get the stress test in cs:s. :( i wonder if well get it too when we buy hl2 ?

I notticed this too...
In CS:S the video stress test AKA "HL2 E3 Tech Demo". there is a different panel for at least 3 days that I have noticed...checkerboard pattern of some mirrored squares and some copper shiny squares..
The mirrored surfaces reflect everything as the panel rotates..its pretty damn cool seeing this bunch of stained glass gordons..unless it isn't allowed or I can't figure out how to post it..I will try and get a good screenshot or 2 of it

You can get the Stress test video from fileplanet now. Its packaged in with the 1.7 gb file that contains all the binks.

Yes, we do. Along with the speaker test.

Me saw it in the CS:S preload GCF.

it looks like it was changed to a panel of mirrors made of copper. Very cool effect

the copper "water" in the stress test vid is the one that has changed recently..

hey wow i never noticed that, its good to see a full res mirror effect.

I just noticed it last night when I ran the stress test again. Cool stuff.

That's not the stress test.. that's a movie file OF the stress test, running on some other system. As far as I know, the only place to get the stress test is through Steam, with CS:CZ as part of the CS:S beta.

To clarify, that package contains videos of the VST, not the VST itself, correct?

Yeah. The stress test is not a video, its a benchmark run through of that area that shows off some source engine junk...

The point of it is to tell you how well you system will do with the source engine. It gives you an average FPS at the end...

Anyway, this just proves to all those tools that source can have mirrors in it

here's a screenshot of the effect...it doesn't really show it well. It looks alot better in motion

Some of them are half lines and half normal reflections, too. It's just a bug.

look closely...then watch that video or run the VST again... is it a bug?
or is just different angles/views of the surroundings?
you can see the pipes that run along the wall in one square, some rock from the wall in another...

maybe I'm wrong but thats what it looks like to me...showing off (testing) more capabilities perhaps...

The VST video in the video pack is the old version with the copper colored water.

nah, no bug
half the panels are reflective, half refractive
the lines are from the stuff on the wall behind it in the refractive panels.

Hey did anyone else run the different settings on the stress test since the update?

I use to get
80 fps with no AA
37 fps with 2x AA
33 fps with 4x AA

Last night I was running the test and here are my scores
79 fps no AA
64 fps 2x AA
59 fps 4x AA

.... of course I just recently reformated my hard drive and reinstalled Windows 2000 so maybe that could account for the performance increase.

Anyone else seeing similar results?
